Q1 2025 Volunteer of the Quarter - Marcus

Marcus, also known as “Dr. Cyclops,” has been a pillar of dedication and leadership at USO Incirlik. Since joining us in July 2024, he has contributed an astounding 310 volunteer hours, trained over 10 prospective volunteers—including many members of our Spanish NATO partners—and helped shape the Spanish-English Language Exchange (SELE) program into a thriving initiative. His commitment to service members and his ability to foster a sense of belonging set him apart, making him an indispensable part of our USO family.

Beyond his leadership in SELE, Marcus has been instrumental in making the USO feel like home. During the last quarter, whether it was coordinating structured discussions for SELE, stepping in when staff members are away, or finding innovative ways to increase the USO’s visibility on base, he is always looking for ways to enhance the experience for everyone. His proactive nature was on full display during the holiday period, where he volunteered nearly every day for six-hour shifts, ensuring programs ran smoothly and service members felt supported during a time away from loved ones.

Marcus embodies what it means to put others first. Whether by bringing over 20 cakes for a birthday, cooking Thanksgiving meals, or organizing an impromptu “Turkish Taste of Home” event to celebrate cultural connections, he continuously fosters a strong sense of community. His natural leadership and initiative were also evident when he represented the USO at the ADC office grand opening, learning about the USO Transitions program to better assist service members who might need it.

His impact extends far beyond just hours logged. He actively connects the USO with the broader Incirlik community, ensuring that service members are aware of the resources available to them. His ability to identify gaps and take action demonstrates his drive to leave a lasting legacy.

Marcus, your generosity, leadership, and unwavering dedication make USO Incirlik a better place every day. Thank you for being a shining example of service and commitment. We are incredibly grateful for everything you do! #theUSO
