Q1 2023 Volunteer of the Quarter

Since September 2022, Mikey has accrued 455 hours, has trained over 20 prospective volunteers, baked over 2,000 cookies and muffins and has been smiling and gracious throughout it all. People from all over Incirlik Air Base come to the USO asking for his chocolate chip cookies. When asked what people love about the USO, many will say the baked goods. Thanks to Mikey, the center smells like home with freshly baked cookies. Additionally, Mikey is always willing to help and is proactive when volunteering. When the center had a mouse problem, Mikey fixed it. When the center is dirty, he spends hours cleaning and mopping. When we need 200 cookies for a unit Morale Drop, he will bake for hours. We the center is short-staffed, he will take the lead on programs. He came in everyday for 6 hours during the holidays for two weeks when the center was short-staffed and was incredibly busy with programs. Mikey has served hundreds of service members both in the center and throughout the base. He connects the USO to service members. For example, when a C-5 crew became stranded in Incirlik over Thanksgiving, he made sure they knew where the USO was (and where the chocolate chip cookies were). By the end of their 2-week unexpected stay, they commented that the USO and Mikey’s baking was a silver lining in their otherwise unfortunate situation.
